No show here

I went on a "date" last night with my L to go photograph the huge waves on lake Michigan thanks to Hurricane Sandy. I was expecting 20+ feet high waves and mayhem much like the photos in Pete's "Lakefront Trail" Blog post.

We headed out towards the Shedd Aquarium thinking there would be some great photo opportunities.

As you can see in the top right, there is a barrier in the water creating a "harbor" between navy pier (white area at top) and the Shedd (red dot). Needless to say the waves weren't quite what we were expecting.

The sunset was amazing!

There were some waves crashing onto the lower level by the Shedd- nothing more than what you'd see during a normal storm.

Adler Planetarium with waves.

The water was choppy, but nothing to write home about. I know north of Navy Pier the big waves were still crashing- the section of the lakefront from Ohio St to North Ave was closed. (for very good reason)

I'm thinking of dressing up CB for HOWLoween tomorrow since the dog food truck, Fido To Go will be in our hood. If we dress him up, he will get a free treat. He likes treats, so hopefully he can tolerate my costume idea for a few minutes.

Happy Halloween!

What are you (or your pet) dressing up as?

-I'm not saying what CB will be because I don't want to get you all excited for nothing if I don't dress him up :) I dont celebrate Halloween, but instead love the idea of the Day of the Dead.

  1. Ugh! Kind of a bummer! I did hear on the radio last night that people were pulling over at Ohio on LSD to see the waves and it was causing traffic issues!

We dressed up Data once and he hated it. It's cruel (to him) so we won't be doing that.

    1. I saw those photos of Data on your FB page... He looked pissed! I put a pumpkin costume on CB a few years ago and he looked so depressed... Not sure how tonight will go :)

  2. Oh well, maybe next storm! Your pictures are still cool especially the skyline with the sunset. I wonder why they don't put up a higher break wall along the Lakefront Trail from North Ave. to Navy Pier, especially around the S-curve? Then they wouldn't need to shut down the path every time a big storm or high winds hit. Not dressing up my dog for Halloween, he can't stand wearing costumes. I guess he will just go as a dog! :-)

    1. Thanks! I'm convinced it's impossible to take bad photos of the skyline :) I'm also surprised they don't have the harbor setup like south of navy pier or a larger seawall around the curve too. Id imagine that's where the waves would crash onto lakeshore drive in a really bad storm.

  3. Love your pitchas! I hope you dress up CB and take some pictures! I don't think Winston will fit in a costume...he's just too big! Maybe a hat...

  4. Bummer there were no big crazy waves to get cool pictures of, although the pictures you did get still look pretty neat to me. I hope you get pictures of CB in a costume!

    1. Thanks! :) lol at your witch costume :) I can't remember the last time I dressed up... I think next year I'll find something. If I feed cb treats, he will tolerate a hat or piece of clothing long enough for a photo. Hoping it works out tonight!

    1. It wasn't bad here either. I was expecting a lot more after all the weather warning hype.
