Throwback Thursday: My 1st race EVER

St Patricks Day Race put on by the Brandon Running Association

March 17, 1991

1st place Age Group (8 & under)

8:58 for 1 mile

This was my very first race ever!

I remember it was raining and that it was an out and back course in a corporate park.

I still do this pose. Like while holding up a shirt at a store "how do I look?" while putting my right leg out. Crazy. I had no idea I did it then.(I don't do it on purpose) L pokes fun at me for doing this all the time...

Waiting to start...

And we're off!! My Daad (green shirt) and I flying by!

Must. Break. 9:00!

Mission accomplished!

Getting my trophy from the creepy leprechaun. (I have no idea what kind of running shoes I was wearing)

Daad and I post race, with my first Age Group win ever.

Sweet trophy!

Being silly at races since the very beginning.

This will be the first of hopefully many "throwback" reports.

Although no other throwback post will be nearly as adorable as this one :)

What was your first race?

  1. This is the cutest thing ever! How adorable to have so many photos from your first race.

My first race was on a cross country course and I took out the first mile way too fast. I can't remember if the race was 3 or 4 miles but I definitely came in closer to the end and didn't win any awards. I think I was in 5th or 6th grade. I don't have any photos from the event since I ran it with my cousins and no one from my immediate family was there.

  2. Love it and I can't believe you have that many photos from the day! I remember a 5k in pre-running days but not sure if I did anything as a kid or not? Probably not!

Hmm, I remember doing trike races as a kid, but no running races. I cannot remember which was my first!

  7. Awww! That's so awesome! I was on the cross country team in junior high, but I have no recollection of my pace, or even what distance we ran (1.5mi, I think?) I have one picture that my parents took ... and I'm running in fake converse hi-tops!! And my gym uniform, since those doubled as team uniforms in junior high.

  9. haha amazing you have pics from this!

Maybe it's just perception, were your shoes really big? Cool stuff!

I have no idea what my first race was - in elementary school there was always a track meet involving all the schools, I think I was in that from grade 4-6, I think I normally did the 4x100 relay I think...

  10. Super fun pictures to look back on! My first real race was in Jr. High School in the 800 meters. Sadly, I have no pictures of it. :/

  11. awh this brought tears to my eyes. What wonderful memories. My first race was in 7th or 8th grade...800 meter dash, and I sucked miserably, therefore quite glad there is no picture proof. <3

  12. This is so cute! Love it. I think my first running race has to be high school when I joined cross country. Nothing was cute about the shorts we had to wear:).

  13. Wow, very cool that you still have lots of photos of your first race. You were already a blogger at heart, even though blogs had not been invented yet! That trophy is huge! Nice job in getting the sub 9:00!

  14. Those pictures are just priceless and you are too adorable!!! A sub 9:00 at that age?!?!? An age-group win?!?!?!? AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! You are a runner prodigy. =D

Sadly, I can't even remember what my first race was, let alone have pictures from it. I ran my first race when I was in my early 20s!
