Happy 11th Birthday, CB

11 years old. I remember the day I walked into the Greenville Humane Society and saw 10 week old "Rusty" all sleepy from surgery with his big blue eyes in the puppy room. I knew he had to come home with me instantly and that we would be perfect for each other.
I'm sure I post this pic each year- It was from the day I brought him home from the shelter. I cant remember him being that small, he grew up waaay too fast!
We had a lot of fun this year- he made some friends at the local dog park.
We took loads of selfies.
We played in a blizzard.
He ate his foot.
He tolerates us dressing him up for photos.
And pretty much looks the same now at 11 years old as he did when he was a goofy little puppy.

He was not a fan of my beer making, except when he got biscuits made from spent grain.
He loves his porkey.
He really loves his daddy.
He looks really cool in sunglasses.
And he enjoys sunrise runs.
He is definitely Daddy's bear.
He just tolerates me. Im convinced he used me to get to L.
He also made it on to one of Fido to Go's trading cards!
He even got a winter jacket because he gets cold. Now he sleeps through the night without coughing.

I love this little guy everything.

A busy day

At 2:30 am CB woke us up. We quickly threw on our clothes because we knew not to question him. We took the elevator to the street where he proceeded to vomit multiple times and have diarrhea. Crisis averted! I then take 20 minutes to google his symptoms/home remedies and found that not giving more than a few teaspoons of water at a time helps prevent additional vomiting. Whereas letting him drink all he wants would induce more vomiting.

A few hours later the same thing happened and I jumped out of bed and took him out so he could once again relieve himself.

Another 2 hours pass and I take him out one last time before heading to work. He barks at small kids in the elevator which makes me slightly less concerned about him being sick. I give him a few probiotic treats and don't give him breakfast.

I feel bad leaving him to go to work, but L was working from home so I knew CB was in good hands.

At work I had to go to a different building and count our inventory of supplies. 4.5 hours later the we got to take a break and see some gorgeous views of Chicago which made me feel just a bit better.

On my way home I got CB some oatmeal, rice and carrots to cook a super bland meal that he will eat for the next few days until things return to normal.

He ate all of the small amount of food I gave him and looked at me with those sweet blue eyes begging for more- which I declined due to the early AM events.

He ended up sleeping through the night without incident and now seems to be back to normal. I have no idea what caused this stomach bug but I'm happy he's feeling better.

Happy CB

3 miles in 25:40 with my sweet pup CB tonight.

It is the first time in a while that i've taken him for a run. While training for Boston, I would only do my long runs outside- and everything else on the treadmill to avoid being in the sub freezing temps. (CB's feet would get cold and he would start to limp and look all pathetic even if I took him outside for 5 minutes for a potty break)

When the weather warmed up we hit the Lakefront path a few times- but due to cyclists who are going really fast, and the unpredictability of CB,SQUIRREL!!!!! we decided that wasn't a good idea either.

Tonight we ran on a big sidewalk parallel to the lakefront and only encountered a few runners and walkers. It was nice.

Super Happy CB

He made me promise that I would take him out for a run again tomorrow.

SQUIRREL! face.

Happy Happy CB and me!! (his breath smells like rotten fish/ garbage)

So while we were walking back home I suddenly remembered I had registered for the Chicago Spring Half Marathon on May 15.  HOLY CRAPOLA! I almost forgot i'm running a half next weekend!
YIKES!!  Im not sure about time goals yet because Im trying to be in healthy non-injured shape for when CES training starts in a month for the Chicago Marathon (and have been recovering from Boston a few weeks ago).  Looks like a 10+ miler is in the forecast for me this weekend.

What's your favorite distance to race?

I love half marathons. LOVE THEM! Getting a shirt, and a medal have me hooked. Plus I like the distance- im not fast so I feel out of place at the shorter races. If i'm training for a marathon I can use the 13.1 as a "training run" and get a shirt and medal out of it!  :)
