København Day 1 {2019} + OutRun Relay {race recap}

This was our 5th trip to Copenhagen. We’ve gone each year for the MBCC - Mikkeller beer celebration Copenhagen, and have made tons of friends both in CPH and abroad- so it’s become a fun “family reunion”* each year. *Friends are the family you choose.

Started out Monday morning running with Ze Pequeno.

Worked 9 hours and then we were off to the airport and the terminal from hell, ORD Terminal 5.

After 9 hours of flying, we were in CPH!

Seen at the airport- reminded me of all the beer + Malort specials in Chicago.

It was a gorgeous chilly day on Tuesday when we arrived to our flat.

So happy!

We got an AirBnB- close to the festival.

It was just so perfect.

Everytime we stay in an Airbnb here, I’m so inspired to throw away 90% of my shit and live a life less cluttered.

It was on the 4th floor- which meant climbing up stairs.

It was spacious and beautiful

Views weren’t bad either.

Fresh breeze + clean air = heaven.

We went across the street to Khiosk for drinks and snacks.

Then we met up with T to bike over to Mikkeller Baghavn for our first race of the trip- The OutRun 13.1 relay.  After 4 trips to CPH, this would be the first time we’ve ever cycled. We entrusted T with our lives for the 4 mile trip. And then decided we were intimidated by CPH cycling for no good reason.

Team photo. There were 5 legs for the relay- I did the mile, leg 5.

Mikkeller brewed beer specifically for the event.

We hung out in the tent for a while before the race started and had a lot of fun running into friends from all over. It reminded me of a HS cross country race.

We cheered our teammates in the cold wind and waited our turns.

L smashed the 3k leg.

H killed his 5k and T did amazing for the 10k.

Then it was time for me to kill a mile. I was so cold. The wind was brutal - especially after standing around for a few hours. I warmed up doing some sprints but felt rusty.

We had fun during the handoff.

So. Much. Fun.

I did my mile in less than 7 min which I was happy with. I took off at like 5:30 pace and was dying within 400m lolz.

Happy to be done! Our team finished in 1:38!!

Baghavn at night is gorgeous, during the day it’s also a great place to hang out.

It’s one of my favorite bars in CPH. They have a lot of barrel aged stouts and sours on tap as well as food.

Sunset was amazing.
Couldn’t help but smile so big with this view.

Post relay and hanging out, we biked back to town with T and his wife and got a personalized tour of the city.

Then we went to world famous Grill Isted for some sandwiches.

Closed out the night with T and G at their house eating some Flæseskteg sandwich. A Danish specialty.

Perfect first day in CPH.

Friends, food and fun!

  1. Pictures are awesome. Congrats on your relay, sounds like you did well despite the fast start. You shook the rust off quickly with that 5:30 pace! Very cool they brewed beer just for the relay.

    1. Thanks Pete! It was a fun long day. The relay was a blast- reminded me of cross country meets in HS where everyone would hang out and cheer. Mikkeller knows how to put on races ;)

  2. That sounds like such a fun event - have they had the relay every year?

I wonder if all homes there are as minimalist or if it's a style for AirBnBs! But yes to having less stuff!
